This vintage Azilal rug is a stunning example of Berber handwoven tribal rugs. A wonderfully authentic tribal piece, dated 1980’s. Woven in lustrous, undyed, natural sheep’s wool with an organic ‘wonky’ diamond and lozenge pattern in brown wool, which covers the whole piece. Occasional lozenges are filled in with solid red and blue, these are dotted randomly to the centre.

A row of minimalist red lines and naive tribal motifs feature towards the flat weave end along with alternating brown and orange dashes, which form a horizontal band. To the tassel end, a more sparse double line spans the width.

A very fine vintage Azilal rug with all of the traditional design features that make these Berber weavings so appealing and sought after.
