Azilal 191
Azilal 191
A rare and highly collectible vintage Azilal tribal rug from the 1970's with an unusual design and colour palette.
Handwoven in naturally mottled sheep’s wool it features an uncommonly artful design. Its tribal motifs, perhaps depicting people or flowers, are represented by a series of abstract diamonds and vertical lines. These naive tribal marks and symbols are joyfully colourful – electric blue, green, yellow and pink pop against the darker, more earthy beetroot red colour. This rug also has a multicoloured border to each vertical edge, which is also irregular for an Azilal rug of its age and origin.
Older, vintage Azilal rugs like this one rarely appear on the market. While previously lesser known than the more popular Beni Ouarain rugs, these mid to late century Azilal rugs are now very sought after.
