A wonderful 1980’s vintage Azilal rug with a bold African colour palette. This large tribal rug is surprisingly modern looking with its graphic colour blocked bands and checkerboard pattern. Handwoven in natural sheep’s wool, its colourful design suggests the weaver was heavily inspired by African tribal culture with its bright red, green and black. A bold and confident piece of Berber weaving.

African culture continues to play a big part in influencing the Berber tribal art aesthetic we see today, much as it did back in the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. We absolutely love pieces like this that really celebrate the rich culture of the Berber tribes and the African influence. An incredibly handsome tribal rug.
