An exceptionally rare 1970's vintage shaggy Azilal rug. A large, heavy and very old thick pile Berber rug. Really wild and shaggy! Shaggy Azilal rugs are not common so are always something special to behold. This Azilal piece is also unusual in that one end is part flat weave.

Handwoven in undyed, natural and brown sheep’s wool, its design is both bold and minimal – rich in tribal appeal. Organic and abstract brown blocks are used to create a simple yet effective semi-symmetrical design. Some blocks are interwoven with flecks of flame orange with the occasional speck of red and emerald green. Larger brown ‘wonky’ bands run along each vertical edge.

One of our buyer’s all-time favourite pieces. Fantastic condition for its age.
