Ourika Valley 337
Ourika Valley 337
An unusual 1980's Ourika Valley rug – part flat weave “hanbel”, part shaggy wool with uncommon dimensions. This is an exceptional piece of Berber tribal weaving. Predominantly natural sheep’s wool to the perimeter, the more central shaggy zone is made up of colourful blocks of dyed wool in orange, red, green, blue and yellow intersected by natural dark brown wool. Berber rugs from the Ourika Valley are typically made from hand-knotting organic, undyed natural sheep’s wool.
Running along the foothills of the Moroccan High Atlas Mountains in southern Morocco, the Ourika Valley is named after and populated by one of the Masmuda Berber tribes, Urika. They practice a traditional way of life in a largely unspoilt place of natural beauty, despite their proximity to Marrakech.
Caring for your vintage Moroccan rug
Professional cleaning is recommended. If an accidental spill happens, we recommend blotting with a clean dry cloth then using luke warm water to gently remove the worst of the spill before blotting again. Then call in the professionals!
