Marmoucha 333

Marmoucha 333

£6,000.00

An exquisite 1970's vintage Moroccan rug from Marmoucha, the neighbouring village to Beni Ouarain. Similar in style to Beni Ouarain rugs, pieces hailing from the Marmoucha region also feature minimalist and naive tribal motifs in natural dark wool on a natural wool background. This rug is a very fine example of this style. It features an intricate diamond pattern all over – each diamond contains its own motif with each row showing the same organic tribal mark. Two of the rows feature unique motifs in each diamond. This Berber rug is rich in tribal symbology depicting protection, fertility and religion, it’s a truly fine example of Berber weaving, an extremely high quality and prized piece from our buyer’s own collection.

Abstract and detailed yet surprisingly simple in design, these qualities made them attractive to famous modernist architects in the 1920's and 1930's, such as Le Corbusier and Alvar Aalto.

Like Benis, Marmoucha rugs are considered to be some of the most prestigious in Morocco. Handwoven from the very finest wool, they are both heavy and sumptuous underfoot.

Caring for your vintage Moroccan rug

Professional cleaning is recommended. If an accidental spill happens, we recommend blotting with a clean dry cloth then using luke warm water to gently remove the worst of the spill before blotting again. Then call in the professionals!
