Striking and expressive contemporary Azilal Berber rug with an abstract tribal design. Handwoven in top grade, natural (undyed) sheep's wool with a colourful and unique Berber pattern. The wonderful tribal markings are woven in black, grey, dark teal blue, yellow and dark cherry red. Exceptionally high quality weaving and a truly artistic modern Morrocan rug. Brand new (unused).

Hailing from a new generation of female Berber tribal weavers in Morocco, our modern Azilals possess the same distinctive features of traditional vintage Azilal rugs: a natural wool background with a colourful abstract tribal design.

Unlike many of the low grade wool, mass produced factory pieces, our modern Azilal rugs are still handwoven using artisanal weaving techniques by the women of indigenous Moroccan tribes. Each piece is unique and made from the finest grade of sheep’s wool. Modern Azilal rug designs pay homage to their cultural roots with their abstract and naive tribal motifs but with an edgy, modern twist – often in really bright contemporary colours and the inclusion of neons too.

True to their older peers, each rug’s design depicts a story from daily life; this may be seasonal, a personal family event or a tribal tale specific to the female Berber that wove it.
