“Papillon” is gorgeous example of Berber weaving from the 1960’s. A Boujad runner in traditional reddish-orange and dark mottled peach hues with rich golden yellow and deep plum and earthy brown detail. The design features bold tribal motifs that look like a butterfly or moth (it is possible these abstract elements signify fertility), stars, cross and palm trees. An intriguing piece, we’d love to know exactly what the weaver was relaying in her design. Pile-woven and flatweave areas provide a wonderful texture and dimension this rug.
