A rare Rhamna piece from the 1970's. Rich, Moorish reds with handwoven edges in goat hair, both characteristic of these style of rugs. Fantastic condition for its age. Moroccan Berber rugs of this style, quality and condition are scarce! What makes this piece so incredibly collectible is its pattern and size - typically these rugs are long and thin to fit in traditional Berber house - this piece is more contemporary in size.
Hailing from Rhamna in the High Atlas Mountains, these sought after Moroccan rugs were woven by Berber women of the tribe. Pieces are often in rich Moorish colours and patterns, which reflect an older North African weaving tradition that is now almost entirely lost.
